The official CCSE manual
The Instituto Cervantes publishes a free-to-download CCSE preparation manual. It contains the official exam questions and is the reference everything else comes from, including this app.
What it is and what's in it
It is the preparation material produced by the very body that sets the exam. It includes the official questions grouped by task, which is what makes it a different document from any summary or set of notes doing the rounds.
Its great virtue is also its limit: it is a publication, not a method. It gives you exactly the content that comes up, and nothing more.
Where to download it
On the Instituto Cervantes website, free. Look for the CCSE section and the current edition; it's worth downloading it from there and not from third-party links, which tend to be out of date.
We don't host the manual here or redistribute it. That isn't a technical limitation: it is Instituto Cervantes material and their site is the right place to get it, as well as the only way to be sure you have the current edition.
Why reading it isn't enough
Reading a question bank produces a sense of mastery that doesn't match what happens on exam day. You recognise the wording, it feels familiar and you conclude that you know it; then the question arrives on its own, without the answer underneath.
Nor does a document keep track of what you get wrong, which is the only information that actually moves your score. That is the difference between having the material and being prepared.
How to use it alongside practice
What works best is keeping it open as a source and practising separately: answer first, get it wrong, read the explanation and go back only to what you missed. The manual settles the underlying doubts; practice tells you which ones you have.
In this app you practise with those same official questions, each with an explanation of its own and with your mistakes saved for review. The manual and practice aren't in competition: one is the source, the other is the training.
Frequently asked questions
- Is the CCSE manual free?
- Yes. The Instituto Cervantes publishes it as a free download on its official website.
- Where do you download the CCSE manual?
- From the official Instituto Cervantes website, in the section devoted to the CCSE. Always download the current edition from there, rather than from third-party copies that may be out of date.
- Can you pass the CCSE with the manual alone?
- You can, because it contains the official exam questions. But reading isn't practising: the manual doesn't tell you which ones you get wrong or bring you back to them, and that's what decides your score.
- Is this website the official manual?
- No. This is an independent app, with no connection to the Instituto Cervantes and no sponsorship from them. The official manual is downloaded from the Instituto Cervantes website.
